FAQ

How are the disks wiped? What format is used?

‘Wiping’ is a term used to describe a process of shredding the contents of a file or disk space. It is impossible to restore any data that has been properly wiped in accordance with data destruction standards. RIP supports the following standards to protect their identity and data.

* American: DoD 5220.22-M * American: NAVSO P-5239-26 (RLL) * American: NAVSO P-5239-26 (MFM) * German: VSITR * Russian: Russian Standard, GOST P50739-95 * Peter Gutmann’s algorithm * Bruce Schneier’s algorithm

We can also wipe the disk in situ over the LAN using Blancco software if you prefer but this does incur an additional licence charge of £2-5 per disk depending on volumes.

Customers can also elect to have their disks physically destroyed if they wish.
